The Institute of Applied Theology at UTS is offering a new series of mini classes that will give you a hands-on opportunity to learn how to use digital media to enhance your ministry. Whether you are a lay person or a church professional, these classes will help you learn to:

- build a strong media team
- run a video camera
- operate a soundboard
- use lighting to your best advantage
- use video editing software
- choose and use graphics

This 36 week Media in Ministry Certificate will be a practicum for the 21st century church to acknowledge that our message is still relevant to a questioning world.  Every course taught in this sequence will be taught from the perspective that this is but another way to communicate the Gospel.  Equal in importance to the technical content is the emphasis on team & community building.  Just like the choir, the Christian education department, the mission team …. The Media Ministry Team is an important entry point for new people who wish to contribute their gifts and interests into the life of the church.

Understanding, embracing and applying the lessons of scripture should be the goal of every church.  As followers of Christ, we are called to share the Good News with all who are in need, in pain or lonely and who are seeking meaning and purpose in their lives.  This calls us to use all the gifts and means available to us with integrity, creativity and purpose.  This is the rational for establishing a Certificate in Media Ministry at UTS.

It’s not about the technology; it’s about how we use the technology to reach and engage an ever growing and curious audience.  This audience is younger, increasingly diverse and in many ways challenging for traditional methods of communication.

There are other places one might go to acquire the necessary technical skills outlined in the course descriptions; but few if any of these will be taught in the context of our call to ministry.  This context is unique to UTS and its long tradition in Media in Ministry.
